Road Safety Hackathon
🚸 One pedestrian dies every hour on India’s National Highways. It’s time to change that.
To combat this alarming crisis, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Highway Operators Association - India (HOAI) are launching the Road Safety Hackathon 2025—a mission-driven competition to develop innovative solutions for pedestrian safety on national highways.
If you're an innovator, designer, or problem-solver, this is your chance to make a real impact!
🚦 The Challenge: Improve Foot Over Bridge (FOB) Usage
Pedestrian safety on highways depends heavily on Foot Over Bridges (FOBs), yet many go unused. The hackathon challenges participants to develop creative solutions that address both behavioral and engineering challenges associated with FOBs.
🛠 Categories: Choose Your Innovation Path
1️⃣ Enhancing FOB Utilization: Develop strategies to encourage pedestrian usage by addressing behavioral, structural, and situational factors.
2️⃣ Redesigning FOB Surroundings: Transform neglected areas around FOBs into safe, functional, and visually appealing spaces.
3️⃣ Pedestrian-Only FOBs: Design exclusive pedestrian bridges to ensure safe, efficient, and uninterrupted crossings.
4️⃣ Mixed-Mode FOBs: Create bridges that safely accommodate pedestrians, cyclists, and two-wheelers.
🏆 Competition Structure
1️⃣ Case Launch & Mentorship Session: Engage with NHAI Chairman & HOAI Leadership for insights.
2️⃣ Concept Note Submission: Submit a 500-word proposal outlining your solution.
